How we research, review and score products

Transparency is only credible when the method is visible. This is exactly how a product goes from an idea to a published, independently scored recommendation — and how we keep it accurate over time.

01

Our Research Process

Every article begins with a research brief that defines the buyer, the job the product needs to do, and the criteria that separate a good option from a mediocre one. We gather manufacturer data, independent lab and third-party testing where available, regulatory records, and a broad sample of verified customer feedback.

Nothing reaches a ranking on reputation alone. We look for evidence, and we document where that evidence is strong, thin, or absent so readers can weigh it themselves.

02

Product Selection Criteria

We shortlist products that are widely available, credibly manufactured, and transparent about what they contain or do. Products with a history of misleading claims, unresolved safety concerns, or opaque sourcing are excluded regardless of popularity.

Selection happens before any commercial conversation. A brand cannot buy its way onto a list.

03

Editorial Independence

Our rankings, scores and opinions are decided by the editorial team using our published methodology. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no influence over verdicts, and no ability to review content before publication.

When a page contains affiliate links, we disclose it clearly. The commission never changes the ranking.

04

Review Methodology

Products are evaluated against a normalized scorecard so a verdict means the same thing across categories. We assess research depth, evidence and testing, value for money, and real-world customer sentiment, then weight those factors according to what matters most for the specific category.

Comparisons put products side by side on the same criteria, so nothing hides in the fine print.

05

How We Update Reviews

Markets change, formulas are reformulated, and prices move. We review published articles on a periodic schedule and after any material change — a new competitor, a recall, a significant price shift — and stamp each article with its last-updated date.

Updating is part of the product, not an afterthought. An out-of-date recommendation is a wrong one.

06

Fact Checking

Factual claims are checked against primary sources before publication — manufacturer documentation, peer-reviewed research, regulatory filings and reputable third-party testing. Where the evidence is uncertain, we say so rather than overstating it.

A second editor reviews each article for accuracy, balance and clarity before it goes live.

07

Scoring System

Each product receives a score out of five, built from weighted sub-scores rather than a single subjective impression. The weighting reflects what actually matters to the buyer in that category.

4.5 – 5.0ExceptionalBest-in-class; recommended without reservation.

3.5 – 3.9GoodSolid, with clear trade-offs to weigh.
